Celebrate Gita Jayanti

Sunday, November 29th, 2015

gitajayanti 20156

The Bhagavad Gita is a transcendental dialogue between Lord Sri Krishna and His devotee Arjuna. Spoken at the outset of a great battle, it is an encyclopedia for humanity.

In contrast to the atheistic scientist’s purely physical (and hence incomplete) description of everything, Bhagavad Gita makes a distinction between the spiritual self and the material body.

The mind, intelligence and senses are discussed in terms of their strengths and limitations, and guidelines are given for their intended use.

Recite the entire Bhagavad Gita… in 5 hours!

Refresh your soul in the company of His Holiness Sivarama Swami & His Grace Gauri das. The entire 700 verses of the Gita will be recited, and chapter summaries will be presented. A fire yajna will be conducted throughout the recitation.

Gita Jayanti offers the opportunity to celebrate the appearance of Bhagavad Gita and to distribute this gem to many others. You are invited to sponsor Bhagavad Gitas and distribute them to your friends, family and colleagues. Alternatively the Temple on your behalf will place them in schools, universities, hospitals or prisons through its various programmes.

To sponsor Gitas please click here

Please note that due to limited space, a maximum of 2 persons per sponsorship can participate in the temple room recitation, (1 person for £51 sponsorship). Additional space will be provided in other rooms equipped with video feeds.

Prabhupada Marathon 2015!

Every December the entire ISKCON world focuses all attention on distribution of transcendental literature, something we all know was so close to Srila Prabhupada’s heart. He was incredibly eager to hear the figures of how many books were being distributed. Indeed, he said it gave him life. When a new book was printed, Prabhupada felt as though he had conquered an empire. He told one disciple – “the best of me is in my books.”

At this special time in ISKCON’s history, Bhaktivedanta Manor would like to make an epic offering to His Divine Grace – no less than 100,000 books distributed this Christmas! Last year we distributed 51,000 books, and that was the most successful marathon for 18 years! So this year’s “100k Effort” is a huge operation that requires everyone’s support! It was Srila Prabhupada who told us to “think big” and aim to “double it”. We hope, pray and sincerely request every single devotee to make a contribution to this momentous effort – be part of history in the making!

IQ EQ SQ – Spiritual Quotient

Monday, February 23rd, 2015

IQ (Intelligence Quotient) tests are famous for assessing logical, mathematical and linguistic skills. We all wish we were in that top bracket of Mensa elite who have an IQ in excess of 140 – unfortunately only 0.5% of the population make it! Developed intelligence empowers one to gather, process and analyse information effectively. The intelligent can think in abstract ways and learn from their experiences. Despite this, history shows that the intelligentsia are not always the most successful, happy and influential people in the world.

Psychologists and neuroscientists are increasingly talking about the need for Emotional Quotient (EQ). Those with high EQ’s are emotionally balanced, able to maintain composure in the chaos of life, and great at relating with people in appropriate and inspiring ways. EQ empowers the successful utilisation of IQ – people act irrationally when volatile emotions hijack their mental state. Thus, EQ measures the human side of life and our interactions with the immediate environment.

While IQ and EQ help us to function in our present situations, SQ (Spiritual Quotient) is all about ‘thinking out of the box.’ People often come to the point where they begin to question life, the universe and everything – who am I, why am I here, what is my purpose, what should I strive for, and what will make me happy? By exercising their SQ an individual can discover deeper meaning, purpose and direction in life. Often, we are busily engaged in chasing things without seriously considering whether they are necessary, fulfilling and really adding value. Our daily endeavours are usually focused on asking the question ‘how,’ but SQ is all about asking the question ‘why.’

We hope this collection of articles will stimulate your SQ and offer some ‘food for thought’ in a world that (consciously or unconsciously) yearns for fresh perspectives and newer paradigms.

The Transcendental Transmission

with His Grace Bhuta Bhavana das

One must deliver himself with the help of his mind, and not degrade himself. The mind is the friend of the conditioned soul, and his enemy as well.

Are you interested in excelling in your spiritual life and also experiencing these benefits in your external endeavours? Undoubtedly, the greatest underused resources for human kind are the Vedic teachings. They have been distilled and delivered by great spiritual teachers and leaders throughout history. – To develop a deeper connection with the Supersoul and the ability to more easily perceive the internal guidance and discrimination coming from Krsna
– To empower your spiritual life through the regular association of innumerable powerful great devotees by the regular reading of spiritual literature
