Offering Comfort and Advice

On this page we are sharing a series short videos to help and inspire us in our spiritual lives:

“Joyful in service and prayer – the essence of bhakti”

“Lord Rama’s devoted monkey warriors”

Please view this beautiful short video made by devotees at Bhaktivedanta Manor.

A lesson from the Ramayan: Strength achieved by transcendence and strength achieved by one’s own endeavour produce different results. Lord Rama’s army of ‘monkeys’ were deeply devoted to Him, thus they were victorious against the sinful Ravana and his well-equipped armies. Today our war is largely an ‘internal’ one. With devotion as our weapon, we must try to overcome the negative qualities as represented by Ravana’s ten heads.

Chanting the Hare Krishna mantra attentively and without offence establishes us in our conditional position as pure, blissful spirit-souls. We are bathed in knowledge and love.

“…When the Supreme Lord reveals Himself to His devotee, there is Self-Realisation. Transcendence is revealed in the heart of the devotee. The Lord comes in the form of transcendental sound, which cleans the material dust from the mirror of the mind…”

Initiated ISKCON devotees make life-long vows to abstain from eating meat, gambling, intoxication and illicit sex. In addition they chant 16 ’rounds’ of the Hare Krishna maha mantra every day. “Controlling the restless mind”

In 6.34 Bhagavad-gita, Arjuna explains that “…the mind is restless, turbulent, obstinate and very strong, O Krishna, and to subdue it… is more difficult than controlling the wind”.
Arjuna speaks for us all when he describes the troublesome mind. However the easiest way to control the mind, as suggested by Lord Caitanya, is chanting “Hare Krishna,” the great mantra for deliverance, in all humility. The method prescribed is that one must engage one’s mind fully in Krishna. Only then will there remain no other engagements to agitate the mind.
