Srila Prabhupada Vyasa Puja Book

Monday, June 28th, 2021

As we approach the Janmashtami Festival at Bhaktivedanta Manor on 28-30 August 2021, we also prepare to celebrate the most blessed Vyasa Puja festival for Srila Prabhupada, which occurs the day after Janmashtami, on Tuesday 31 August 2021. This marks the 125th year since Srila Prabhupada’s birth, so we want to make a special offering to him.

As part of this festival, Srila Prabhupada himself instituted the production of a Vyasa Puja book of offerings by his followers. By writing a heartfelt offering and having it printed in a book that’s presented to Srila Prabhupada on that blessed day, all of Srila Prabhupada’s followers can express their gratitude to him.

Due to the pandemic we won’t be celebrating Vyasa Puja in the usual manner again this year, so we urge each and every devotee to send an offering expressing their appreciation of Srila Prabhupada. He is so worthy of our remembrance, appreciation, gratitude, glorification, and prayers. Please take the time to write an offering and send it by Sunday 25 July 2021. Since it’s the 125th anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s appearance, we would like to have all his followers contribute this year. Please write an offering!

Email your offering to:

Your offering doesn’t have to be long – a paragraph or a small poem will be much appreciated. There’s no word limit; what we seek is some words from your heart. If you’d like support in writing your offering go to:

SrilaPrabhupada Festival

I did not know whether to turn left or right” – is what Srila Prabhupada contemplated as he set his foot off the cargo ship after a 37-day rocky voyage to US.

A lot is said and written about his accomplishments in the western world. Hardly do we ever try to delve and celebrate his preparation to this milestone. Born in an affluent family, from carrying the freedom fighter spark to discovering the real purpose of human life to fulfilling a divine plan, his life epitomises that before our successes manifest externally, we need to internalise these through our perseverance, choices and responses. There are no short-cuts.

He left his own home but built a house where the whole world could live.
He sacrificed his own family but to unite the whole world as one family.
He lived with few dollars for sustenance but exhibited a life of substance.
He embraced poverty but gifted all of us a legacy of rich tradition.
He didn’t desire appreciation for himself but for the message he was carrying.
He tolerated rejection but accepting all is his universal message.

Clearly for him, our long-term gains were well above his personal short-term pains.

Knowing a personality with such saintly calibre is a very precious experience. Learning to follow his footsteps can be a lifetime.

Here at Bhaktivedanta Manor, we bring you 1st Annual “Srila Prabhupada Festival” to celebrate this glorious personality with this year’s theme as “Our Founder Acarya – Past, Present & Future”.

Hear from senior devotees who share their experiences on how Srila Prabhupada’s message and influence is timeless and continues to be the guiding beacon for many of us.

Fifty Years of Service & Joy

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

In 1965, a 69 year-old spiritual teacher from India arrives in the West and settles among the hippies of New York’s Lower East Side. From a tiny storefront, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami starts a revolution of consciousness influencing tens of thousands in the US and worldwide. But what happens to his spiritual movement , the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), after their charismatic leader’s passing? Will it survive? Will it change? Can an ancient Eastern religious tradition be relevant in the modern 21st century?

Manor’s Marathon Success

The annual Book Marathon is always a very special time, but last December was extraordinary! In celebration of the 50th Anniversary since the incorporation of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the aim of the Manor devotees was to distribute 100,000 of Srila Prabhupada’s book in just one month!

After a tremendous effort by more than 350 devotees of all types, 131,340 books were distributed by Manor community devotees across the UK, the largest Marathon score outside of India, and the most successful in over 20 years! The top five positions went to huge ISKCON temples in India, including Delhi, Mayapur, Mumbai (Juhu) and Pune.

The incredible efforts of many devotees, the miraculous stories of books being distributed, and the feeling of being intimately under Srila Prabhupada’s direct shelter and care, remind us of the all-auspicious nature of distributing his books to the public. Record numbers were involved: over fifteen sanga teams, the Pandava Sena, Sivarama Swami’s team, Manor School alumni, travelling ashram teams and fulltime householders. This effort was a very much united community-wide achievement. The National Sankirtan festival was held at the Manor in early January, organised by Vishvambhara das the National Coordinator for Sankirtana. Special guests included Sivarama Swami, Praghosa das, Dayananda Swami and Dhananjaya das .

“Special gratitude must go to Sutapa das and Bhakta Nikhil, ” said Gauri das Managing Director of Bhaktivedanta Manor.

Four of the top five individual street distributors were from the Manor. Second place nationally was Ananda Caitanya das, third was Bhakta Ganesh, fourth Janakinath das and fifth place and the top lady distributor was Guru Shakti dasi. The winners of the ‘Team contact’ category was once again the Manor’s Bhakti Vriksha group!

Stories from the street- A few samples!

As a young university student walked past me, something inside told me to stop him. He was a pharmacy student from a wealthy Arab background. I explained how Prabhupada’s books explained how mantra meditation helps reduce the suffering and depressing conditions of modern life. He was eager to know more and told me how he been feeling suicidal because he didn’t see the meaning of anything he was doing; studies, work, and life in general. Then he questioned “What do these books talk about that I haven’t heard before?” I then explained the Krishna consciousness philosophy in some detail:

“Does that make sense?” I nervously asked. “It makes complete sense!” he exclaimed with confidence. He left taking a Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam 1st Canto and a VEDA book along with a Chant and be Happy!

Bhakta Nikhil

In Coventry I met two friends who took a VEDA and Gita from me. One of them had already read the Veda and bought it for his friend. He told his friend to read the Veda telling him it is a beautiful book as it is the most ancient teachings. He then bought a Gita for himself as he said he always wanted to read it. He also told me he knows the Mahabharata and Ramayana!

Guru Shakti dasi

As I approached a young man and said that we are Hare Krishna’s he started to dance! He explained that he met us before at the Woodstock festival, and from all the places there he loves the Hare

Krishna’s the most. He took books, gave a big donation and gave me big hug!

The 100k Effort

Monday, November 23rd, 2015

Prabhupada Marathon 2015!

Every December the entire ISKCON world focuses all attention on distribution of transcendental literature, something we all know was so close to Srila Prabhupada’s heart. He was incredibly eager to hear the figures of how many books were being distributed. Indeed, he said it gave him life. When a new book was printed, Prabhupada felt as though he had conquered an empire. He told one disciple – “the best of me is in my books.”

At this special time in ISKCON’s history, Bhaktivedanta Manor would like to make an epic offering to His Divine Grace – no less than 100,000 books distributed this Christmas! Last year we distributed 51,000 books, and that was the most successful marathon for 18 years! So this year’s “100k Effort” is a huge operation that requires everyone’s support! It was Srila Prabhupada who told us to “think big” and aim to “double it”. We hope, pray and sincerely request every single devotee to make a contribution to this momentous effort – be part of history in the making!
